Hello, Friend
I painted every day - and finished a painting every day - in January. In the springtime I kind of got away from that partly because my son moved back home and took up most of my studio, and partly because life happens. During the January painting challenge I painted a little bit of everything in every media, but I realized something fairly recently... even though I've been resisting it because they're much easier for me, what I want to paint is horses (and other animals, but especially horses).
So this painting represents a return to my comfort zone and a declaration of my mission.
There's another interesting story behind it. My husband's aunt has back problems and some other stuff going on in her life right now, and she offered to let me take her beloved Quarter Horse off her hands. I knew he was a QH gelding, that was all. I started painting this painting, and while it was in progress her husband sent me pictures of Doc, and interestingly enough, he looks quite a bit like this horse, except for the white on the face being different.
Whether Doc will come to live with me, I don't know (I'm planning on putting up a blog of my journey with my horses since I think the people who will appreciate my horse paintings will enjoy it, so keep an eye on the site and stay tuned!)
